Global Bioenergies signs a first contract with an American industrial group and validates its commercial strategy
Munich, December 14, 2010 – Global Bioenergies, based near Paris (France) and having recently opened an office in Munich (Germany), announces a first agreement with an American partner concerning a specific application of its gaseous hydrocarbon bioproduction process. This partnership validates the commercial strategy put in place by the company, based on the establishment of application-specific licensing agreements.
Global Bioenergies announces having inked an agreement with an American Fortune 500 company concerning one of the applications of its bioprocess for gaseous hydrocarbon production. The market targeted by this application alone amounts to several billion dollars.
Thomas Buhl, Director of Business Development, says “I am very happy with this first success. Ethylene, propylene and isobutylene are platform molecules from which different products can be derived. For example, isobutylene is used in the fuel industry (ETBE, isooctane) but also to manufacture organic glass, plastics and tyres. We therefore have ongoing discussions with market leaders in a number of fields.”
This contract validates the commercial strategy of the company, which is based upon the attribution of licenses on processes still under development to industrial players in different domains, such as sugar, chemistry, consumer goods, or car industries.
Marc Delcourt, CEO of the company, further comments “The upstream concession of future rights on our bioprocesses contributes to their financing and accelerates their development. Such agreements also constitute a good opportunity for our industrial partners to obtain rights under preferential conditions by participating to the risk of industrialization. We expect to sign a number of new partnerships agreements in 2011.”

Founded in 2008 by Marc Delcourt and Philippe Marlière on the Genopole Campus (close to Paris, France), Global Bioenergies is one of the few companies worldwide, and the only one in Europe, to develop a process allowing the conversion of renewable ressources into hydrocarbons.
The company has successfully completed the initial steps in the development of its process to convert vegetal resources into isobutylene. These steps include proof of concept, strain construction and laboratory scale prototype. The company continues to improve the yield of the process and is preparing to carry out pilot tests.
